SIN AND PUNISHMENT

A Passage From "Sin and Punishment", Chapter One

Convinced he has a direct connection to the Lord, once inside the Church, Clyde walks to the picture of Jesus. He kneels down under the picture and raising his head back, Clyde stares at the picture and prays out loud.

"Luther, my son, deliberately disobeyed me and sinned against you my Savior and our heavenly Father. He took off all his clothes, run around naked with another boy on the riverbank, and then went swimming naked. And," Clyde pauses, clearing his throat, "My Savior, I am ashamed to say he was playin with his and the boy's private parts. I am here to receive your blessin to punish him. Do I have your permission to do so? Amen."

Clyde then bows his head and waits for an answer.

Clyde hears his answer when he says to himself, "Luther sinned by breakin the Commandments and for this he must be punished."

Raising his head and again staring at the picture of Jesus, he says out loud, "Thank you my Savior for your order to proceed with the punishment of Luther. Amen."

At this point, Clyde leaves the church and hurries to the barn. Once his eyes adjust to the dim light inside the barn, Clyde sees Luther sitting on a bundle of hay crying.

"Hush! And don't start your usual snivelin. Cause I am in no mood for your sissy behavior, you little coward. Now stand up and pull your pants down and take your punishment like a man."

While Luther pulls his pants down and leans over the haystack, Clyde reaches for his wooden paddle hanging on a post.

The paddle he is using to punish Luther measures twelve-inches in length and an inch-and-an-half thick. On one end, the handle is centered measuring six-inches long narrowly cut to three-inches across. On the other end, the flat surface, with the same thickness, measures six-inches across and six inches long.

Raising the paddle, Clyde swings down on Luther's bare behind. He swings the paddle back and forth, as Luther scream out in pain.

All the while he is whipping Luther, he says loudly. "Luther, remember God's Commandment, in Exodus, chapter 20, verse 12: 'Honor they father and they mother, that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.' Amen."

"Please stop!" Luther screams. "I won't do it again! I won't do it ever again."

"Tell me and the Lord what you won't do again. Go on, tell us, Luther!"

"I won't ever swim in the river again."

"And what else do you have to tell the Lord."

"I promise I won't run around naked again. Oh, it hurts, Father!"

"And tell the Lord you won't play with what is between your legs or any boy's legs."

"But I did'unt do that."

"Yes you did! You can't lie to the Lord Luther!" Clyde yells! "I know you did, you little sissy. Go on, tell the Lord."

"Okay, okay! I promise I won't do it again."

"Do what, let the Lord hear you say the words."

"I promise, I won't touch down there."

"And," Clyde adds, "I won't ever touch any boy down there again."

"I promise, I promise, God!"

Clyde stops the whipping and orders. "Now put your pants on and get on your knees."

Although he is groaning in pain, Luther pulls his pants on and drops to his knees in front of his father.

"Now say the words, Luther."

In a tearful voice, Luther says, "God forgive me for my sins of disspectin and disbeyin God and my Father and I promise I won't do it again. Amen."
